“We were just kids!” she yelped in her sexagenarian voice, unchanged from the college junior she had been in 1968. Eddie hadn’t expected GV’s surge to the F-word when she told him she “had been fucked up too!” GV’s feelings of guilt for “two-timing” her pin-mate were legitimate but not nearly of the same dimension as the trap in which Eddie’s life had been psychologically suspended. Eddie had spent over forty years wondering about the outcome if circumstances had been different in 1968. As he wrote the List of Goals in 1976, his question to himself was about the fact he had not known how to make love to GV in 1968. His 1976 realization was his understanding of how vital GV’s impact had been on him.
